Follow these steps in BrickNote settings on your computer.

Before you start
- You will need the firm's email address, its billing details and a card authorised for this expense. Your bank may ask you to confirm.
- If a personal account is already signed in in the browser, check which organisation will carry the expense before enabling billing.
- The card is the manager's or the firm's. Do not advance personal money for a professional expense.
- The invoice carries the registered name, the address and, if the provider asks for it, the VAT number. BrickNote gives no tax advice.
- Your bank may ask for a confirmation on a phone. Keep it within reach.
- The console may be in English. Each step gives the real label, then its translation.

The firm is already on ChatGPT Team or Business
You already know the provider, but BrickNote's API access is configured and paid for separately. If the firm already uses the OpenAI API, ask the person who manages it for access to the BrickNote project.
01 — Open the account
Create the API account with the firm's email address, then create a project named « BrickNote ».
Project
The selector at the top of the console shows the firm's organisation and a « BrickNote » project.
- A personal account may already be signed in: check which organisation will carry the expense.
- One project per application, not per site.
- A ChatGPT Plus subscription does not include API usage: that is billed separately.

02 — Enable billing
Buy prepaid credit — $5 minimum, valid for a year — with a card authorised for this expense.
Billing
The billing page shows available credit and a saved payment method.
- The credit is prepaid: when it runs out, calls stop. It is the simplest protection — without being a strict cap, since the balance can briefly go negative while billing catches up.
- Auto-recharge buys credit again on its own. You can leave it off until you know your usage.

03 — Set the limit at OpenAI
Set the monthly limit of the « BrickNote » project and tick the option that actually blocks at the limit.

The project shows a monthly limit and the blocking option enabled.
- An alert alone blocks nothing: it warns. Only the hard limit stops the calls.
- Check the organisation limit too: the lower of the two applies.

04 — Create the API key
In the « BrickNote » project, create an API key with only the rights it needs, and copy it straight away.

The key is shown once, in full. It will never be visible again.
- Not an admin key: a project key, with only the rights it needs.
- The key is shown only once. If it is lost, create another and revoke the previous one.

05 — Paste the key and run the test
Paste the key below, then run the test on the demonstration site.
BrickNote shows « Access verified · OpenAI », then the worksheet before and after review.
- If someone else holds the key, have them type it on this machine, or pass it through the firm's password manager — never by email.
- If the key has been lost, go back to the key step and create another.
